Crowley to Debut Network Document Scanner, New UScan Option and Provide Free Onsite Imaging Estimates at ALA Annual 2014

June 25, 2014 – Frederick, Md. and Las Vegas, Nev. – Christopher Crowley, president of The Crowley Company, announces a new product to be displayed at this year’s American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition (ALA) at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV from June 26-30. In addition to the book and microfilm scan/copy systems that attendees expect to see from The Crowley Company, they will be introduced to the Avision SC8800 network document scanner and a new UScan Universal Film scanner option. For the first time in more than a decade attending this conference, Crowley will also offer free onsite collection imaging estimates by imaging specialist Meghan Wyatt. International representatives from both Qidenus and Zeutschel book scanner brands will be present at Crowley’s Booth 1154 to offer in-depth knowledge of their products, which are distributed exclusively by Crowley in the U.S.

The Avision Scan Center 8800 is an ethernet-ready network document scanner featuring scan to email, host, file and flash drive output options. The 10″ touchscreen panel offers users a simple and fast way to deliver documents without the need for a separate printer, copier and scanner. Company president Christopher Crowley notes, “We decided ALA was the right venue to debut this product because libraries require solutions for both walk-up patrons and back-office records management. The SC8800 is extremely affordable and offers a variety of features and functions that make it suitable for both uses.”

Found increasingly in libraries across the globe, the UScan+ Universal Film (UF) Scanner features color scanning, USB 3.0 connectivity and more for all micro media. The improved touch-tile patron interface with collapsible, easy-to-follow menus make this unit ideal for walk-up use and very user-friendly for a digital-born generation working with analog technology. Library patrons can read or scan from microfilm, microfiche, aperture cards, negatives and more, and save to a number of output options including: file; CD/DVD; USB; email and cloud.

Offered for the first time at ALA is the UScan with optional 14 megapixel camera. In combination with the UScan’s existing precision optics, the 14 megapixel USB 3.0 camera option brings images to the next level of clarity, leading to: clear, crisp text and photos; added detail on smaller fonts and background images; increased clarity while zooming; and rich, smooth color images.

Crowley Imaging specialist Meghan Wyatt will be onsite to provide estimates for outsourcing the digitization of collections including bound or loose newspapers, manuscripts, books, graphic arts or microfilm. Matthew McCabe, vice president of business development, states, “This is the first time we will be offering detailed onsite imaging estimates at a conference exhibit. The scanners and their technology provide the ‘eye candy’ for the show, but we also know that libraries today find outsourcing a cost-effective digitization solution as either a scanner replacement or an add-on to over-burdened in-house scanning staff. Our goal is to provide those interested in this option with the same hands-on, face-to-face experience that our hardware prospects receive when they come to the booth for a demonstration and price quote.” Estimate appointments can be scheduled by calling (240) 215-0224, emailing sales and marketing assistant Camily Bishop or stopping by Booth 1154 to see if times are still available.
